For the last four years, De Oude Kraal farm was ravaged by a crippling drought. Our bore holes were running on empty. The area looked like a dessert and the animals were all affected by the extreme heat waves and sparse grazing available. We were forced to enforce water restrictions. We also put a grey water recycling system in place.
Last year on 25 December 2017, just after finishing a successful Christmas buffet lunch, the first rain started falling. It has continued ever since with a years worth of rain falling in two months. It is an extreme relief and the farm is looking beautiful. The dams have water again, water birds are returning to nest. The veld is growing to its full potential. Our animals are flourishing with the moderate temperatures and abundance of grass growing. As the temperature is becoming more moderate, now is the ideal time to come and explore a walking trail on the farm.
